The furniture network was active between 2021 and 2025, and brought together central purchasing bodies and procurement agencies accross the Nordics. In 2025 we launched an impact calculator for furniture.
Impact calculator for circular furniture procurement
We have developed an Impact Calculator for furniture procurement, launching in early 2025. This tool helps public organisations assess the climate footprint and cost implications of circular measures - tailored to each stage of the procurement process.
The calculator covers furniture types that typically produce the highest emissions in public-sector organisations: office chair, meeting chair, sofa, lounge chair, desk, meeting table, cabinet/shelf, acoustic screen and desk divider.
With this tool, you can explore potential emission and cost savings by repairing existing furniture, buying second-hand instead of new, reducing the number of items, and extending product lifespans.
This tool is available in the following languages: English, Finnish, Swedish, Danish, and Norwegian (bokmål and nynorsk).
Undersøk hvordan forskjellige tiltak påvirker CO2-utslipp og kostnadsbesparelser for møbler i din virksomhet.
Overview about furniture network (2021–2025)
Reducing climate impact in furniture procurement
Many organizations have significant potential to reduce their climate footprint and costs through circular furniture procurements. While challenging for a single organization, this network provided a platform for collaboration, learning and exchanging experiences.
Starting point of the project: Nordic Circular Furniture Dialogue Conference
In December 2021, we hosted the Nordic Circular Furniture Dialogue Conference, bringing together public buyers and market actors. The conference aimed to enhance knowledge about circular furniture and facilitate the exchange of circular solutions and procurement needs. A follow-up survey revealed that participation in the conference led to circular public procurements for five public buyers.
Big Buyers Network
We established a Big Buyers network to share experiences and collaborate on circular furniture procurement. This group is working closely together, identifying areas for closer cooperation and facilitating sustainable procurement practices.
The following organisations are members of the big buyers network:
- Denmark: The Danish State and Local Government Procurement Service (SKI)
- Finland: Hansel
- Norway: The Norwegian State Procurement Centre
- Sweden: Adda
- Sweden: The National Agency for Public Procurement
Goals
- Increase cooperation and experience exchange across the Nordics
- Increase knowledge on making more circular and climate friendly furniture procurement
- Facilitate innovative furniture procurements
